Grade Appeal

Instructor, Chair, and Academic Dean plus an ad hoc committee. Final authority rests with the Academic Dean's Office.

Only violations of due process can be appealed beyond the Dean’s level to the Academic Standards Committee.

Exceptions or Waivers to University or Graduate College Academic Policies

Change Withdrawal Date

 

Students are required to submit to the Registrar's Office a Petition to Change Drop/Withdrawal Date form and attach supporting documentation as to why their withdrawal date must be changed.

After the initial review by the Registrar's Office, the request is forwarded to the Financial Aid office for approval. After processing, petition information is sent to the Student Accounts Office to remove holds and adjust the late and/or collections fees. This has a one year deadline from the term being requested.

Grade averaging for graduate students

Courses repeated under the regular grading scale do not replace the grade for the prior course, and both grades are used in the computation of the cumulative grade point average (GPA).

Courses repeated under the P/F grading scale do replace the grade for the prior course, and only the repeated course grade will be used in the computation of the cumulative GPA.

Unit overloads for winter and summer sessions

Our policy limits students to 4 units for winter sessions and to a maximum of 16 units over all summer sessions.    Exceptions to these maximum unit limits for winter or summer sessions are not allowed.

Withdraw from a class after the W deadline

Petition is reviewed and evaluated by Instructor, Academic Unit Chair, and Academic Dean.  Final authority rests with the Academic Units Dean’s office.

Withdraw from a term or from classes after the last day to withdraw

Students are required to submit a Withdrawal Form with the requested supporting documentation to the Graduate College.  This request must be made within one year from the requested withdrawal term. The Graduate College Associate Dean consults with the University Graduate Committee Review Subcommittee on each case and makes the final decision for the Graduate College.

Waivers must be submitted each term. Waivers must receive signed approval from departmental Dean Designee. Departmentally approved waivers sent to  Graduate College for processing.
